okay, I remember a few more things about the Hasbro panel:

-They were asked about female TFs.
There are none scheduled for Armada, but they
plan to have some in the next line.

-Galvatron and Thundercracker (the 2 repaints) are scheduled for next year.

-There are no more animal TFs planned for Armada (Laserbeak
will be the only one)

-There are more role-play TFs planned for Armada. Laserbeak won't
be the last. [soundwave if we're lucky...?]

-They like to re-use the old names. Copyright reasons aside.
The rep said Starscream was one of his favorites growing up,
and it would be wrong to deprive kids today of such a cool name.

-Fortress Maximus is delayed due to "drop test" reasons.
Apparently, when they drop him from a height onto the floor,
he can break and leave sharp points sticking out. Old molds
don't stand up to today's safety standards. They hope to
release him next year, when the plastic problems are resolved.

-No plans for War Within toys.

So they already have the next line planned. Hmm...

If I recall, the exact quote was something like
"One of our stated goals for the next line is to include a few
female characters."

I got the impression that they are hard at work on the next line,
but its probably still in the early stages at this point.

Well, IIRC, Hasbro has said it takes about
two years for a toy to go from concept
designs to finished product, so if the
post-Armada line is aimed for 2004
(as we've heard it will be) then they
would have to be getting them all
going about now.

-ZacWilliam, as for Femme's I'm all for it. It'd be very cool if they
remembered Elita 1.

You know, I imagine this could potentially happen with just about *any*
Transformers toy, providing you drop it from a sufficient height and/or use
enough force. I don't doubt their reasoning behind this, but it just seems odd
to me.

Depends on the context you're using those words in. There are no sexes (as far
as we know) for TFs but there most definately ARE genders.

JMs are made of polyethylene, IIRC.

It would be the size of Fort Max's regular box, eh? JMs are 24 inches. It would
be pretty much exactly like Fort Max, but with hollow blow-molded limbs, and
simpler. Probably nontransforming, with tons of missiles. At least, that's how
it should be done...

I just hate thinking of all the Fort Maxes that are getting dropped onto the
floor for these safety tests.

By the way, are these going to be available in normal stores, or through online
orders only? (I'd thought it was only online, but if they've gotta do all
these safety tests, I'm tempted to think they're gonna make it fit for the
general public.)

I hope Hasbro has a change of heart on this one. I would love to get a

He said "technically." As Transformers don't seem to reproduce sexually,
there ~are~ no "female" tfs. Just as there are no "male" tfs.

The fact that some adopt "female" personas does not necessarily reflect the
truth.

Well, yeah, I figured that much. (It seems to me that Fort Max should never be
in a situation where he'd fall, theoretically speaking, any higher than
shoulder-height to a seven-year-old.)

I wonder... are they going to retool him so that his limbs freely detach, sort
of like Supreme Cheetor or Supreme Primal (I know at least one of his arms
comes off, anyway)? That would, actually, be kind of cool. When I was a kid,
I always loved Transformers upon whom you could inflict "battle damage" during
play, without all the messy business of having to glue them back together
afterwards. :)

Both of Suprimal's arms come off, and you can actually switch them.
However, the left arm has its joint in the shoulder, and the right arm's joint
is in the body - so if you switch them the right arm will have two shoulder
rotators and the left arm will have none.

So if you get two Suprimals, you can have one with two fully articulated arms
and no punch gimmick - and one with two punch gimmicks, and an immobile left
arm. I'd do that if it wouldn't be so expensive... I hate it when a gimmick
ruins the symmetry of arm articulation.

The point is, while some Transformers act like human females, they can't have
babies - in fact, no Transformers have babies, or do anything that represents
the biological processes that divide males and females in humans.

There's really no point to divide them into two genders unless you're
specifically comparing them to the human genders. Transformers could have no
genders, or two genders, or three genders with one having a mix of what humans
consider masculine and feminine traits, or more - but they still wouldn't be
the same thing as human male and female. They'd just be a description of
physical form and behaviorial/mental aspects, without the discrete
physiological division that humans have.

What I ~meant~ was that the ~apparent~ presence of female Transformers
doesn't reflect ~actual~ sexual dimorphism. It's purely a cosmetic decision.

. . .

I don't think so, but I don't care anymore. You here that, Hasbro
panel? You've made *me* not! care! anymore!

And I've liked everything about Transformers up to now. The original stuff from
1984-85, all the way up to the *masters (even the Micromasters--they sucked and
all, but hey, they were Transformers!), the Pretenders . . . the other stuff,
Gen 2, Beast Wars, Machine Wars, Beast Machines, RiD, Armada . . .

But the stupid pointless arguing over whether there are male and
female Transformers or not (and there are, factually, male and
female Transformers, and that means sexual diphormism or . . .
whatever it is . . . whether anyone wants to admit it or not) has
made me not care.

You have all witnessed the death of a Transfan.

That way the floor can break instead! :-) Or the remaining plastic

Not really planned yet- regarding the next line, they said essentially that
they're starting to work on ideas for it. Regarding female characters, it

We have a convention and an upcoming fanclub to deal with such concerns, so
don't feel too bad.

Well, compliance with the law is compliance with the law.

In any event, I doubt very much will have to be changed, beyond altering
some plastic compositions and perhaps finding an alternative for the big
metal plate of death in his chest. Some parts may need to wind up being more
solid while others need some hollowing out.

Maybe we'll luck out, and while they're redesigning him they'll slap down a
g1 colorscheme or give him back his lost weapons and accessories.

Don't forget the metal component that's part of the dual blaster on his left
leg. I think the problem is that the toy is just so damn heavy; if he were
lighter, he'd be less susceptible to cracking open if dropped. I won't be at
all surprised if, after the toy's eventually released, people start complaining
that he feels like a knockoff.

I still like my idea of giving him detachable parts like the Supreme toys,
though. Of course, keep in mind that I'm currently enamored with the
Masterpiece Edition C-3PO, so that may be coloring my judgment a bit. :)

I already have the G1 toy, though. I'd rather they stuck with the RiD colors
so that I'll have a toy that represents Fortress Maximus as we saw him in RiD.
And yeah, I'd love to see him fully-armed again. :)
